Both the US and Canada are significant global producers of natural gas, helping keep prices low on the continent with enough to support world-leading LNG exports.

  • Western Canada: Two plays in Alberta and British Columbia, the Montney and Duvernay, lead the way with a mix of dry and liquids-rich gas and momentum building around future LNG exports.
  • Alaska: Gas comes mainly from the North Slope and Cook Inlet, but the real story is the significant stranded reserves waiting on pipelines or LNG to unlock.
  • Appalachia: The Marcellus and Utica shales dominate as prolific dry gas plays, making the region the backbone of US natural gas supply.
  • Texas: Output is driven by associated gas from the Permian and Eagle Ford, plus dry gas from the Haynesville, all supported by strong Gulf Coast LNG demand.

It’s expected that gas will play a significant role in addressing the near-term needs of data centers for power supply.
