Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s letter on Monday directing ERCOT and the Public Utilities Commission to conduct an audit of all projects in the interconnection queue has caused a bit of a stir.
Data centers account for 90% of the roughly 1,800 projects and 474 gigawatts of capacity in the queue. While the letter is not a data center moratorium, like we saw under Gov. Kathy Hochul in New York, it does add unwanted uncertainty and risk for developers, making it even more critical to understand local transmission and queue dynamics moving forward.
Orennia’s Aaron Foyer and Jeff Taylor sat down to discuss what this means and what to expect with the US midterms just three months away.
